Workshop Session

1. Venue Reports

Minutes

Visionary vs. Operation

  • Do we want to allow venue coordinators to be non-Board members?
    • Is this separate from all the other operational tasks involved in running a league
    • It is not challenging to negotiate with Riverscape, it is harder to negotiate with Chiller

1.1 RiverScape MetroPark
Jason Hillard, Director

Minutes

  • Brian did a fabulous job running it
  • The Equipment movement was a failure
    • Miscommunication on the front end b/c Pat & Paul thought that they were in charge of the entire equipment move
    • Dean hasn’t totally taken over as equipment manager
      • Lack of communication
      • Jim had originally offered but rescinded once he found out that someone else had offered
        • Want to talk to him to see if he can help train Dean
    • Jason H ended up having to do all of it
    • With a U-Haul, it’s 3 hrs, don’t need more than 3 or 4 people
  • Don’t know how the last broomstacking at a new location went
  • Jason H may ask Brian to join the debrief with James Carter, Riverscape Rink Manager
  • The use of MailChimp and Eventbrite seemed to work really well
    • The emails looked great
  • Was a success as a whole
  • Ideas for next year
    • No competitive leagues/draws
      • Should even out the distribution of new curlers
    • Need to tell Alex (guy who brings 6 teams) that if he wants a whole draw he needs to give us advanced warning
    • Need a new venue person for next year
    • Jason H will ask Brian if he is interested

1.2 NTPRD Chiller Springfield
Bruce Clingan, Director/President

Minutes

  • Bruce will send a list of the dates that we want to Chiller and CC all of us on it
  • The Superfriendly is reserved
    • Bruce has done a little of marketing already
    • Need to send an email to all the past participants and to all members
    • Ask Paul to send info to GLCA to advertise
    • Need Tricia to start sending out marketing for the Superfriendly
      • Bruce can help determining which lists this should go out to
      • Likely the master list will be fine
    • There are some individuals that signed up, but most of it is team signups
  • Can run learn to curls on the open ice on Mondays
    • Can offer the learn to curl participants to play for the remainder of the 10 weeks for a discounted price (e.g. $100)

1.3 Kettering Rec Center
Paul Robinson, GLCA Representative

        • Can get a copy of Brian’s business plan
          • Maybe have him present this at our next meeting?

      • Communication
  • Collaboration

3. Safesport
Bob Balcerek, At Large Director

4. Budget

Minutes

  • Want to buy some inventory of a new pin design that celebrates our 10 year mark
    • Are also going to buy some more of our normal pin but don’t really need authorization for that
    • Will be a limited run
    • 200 of these as the first order = $2.25 a pin
      • Sell for $5?
